Innovations in Aging Podcast Episode 3: Protecting and Supporting Older Adults

Nov. 10, 2021

In the Innovations in Aging podcast series, Jon Kevan, MEd, and Lauren Erdelyi, MPH, CAPM, from University of Arizona Health Sciences Global and Online sit down with experts from across the University of Arizona to discuss the latest in how we can prepare to meet the needs of the growing population of older adults in the U.S. and around the world.

In this episode, your hosts Jon and Lauren are joined by Dr. Lisa O'Neill, assistant professor in medicine and associate director of research in education at the University of Arizona Center on Aging to discuss elder abuse, adult protective services, organized crime, and common scams for older adults.

“The World Health Organization estimates that one out of every six adults aged 60 and older have experienced some sort of abuse in a community setting over the last year, and unfortunately, it’s estimated that only about one out of 14 cases is reported,” said Dr. O’Neill. “We need to do more to increase awareness.”
